CHORLEY and District Sea Angling Club's November 11 match venue was at Silecroft, Cumbria where 18 members fished from 5.30 to 9.30pm with high water at about 8pm.
Conditions were cold and dry with a fresh northerly wind throughout. Most fish came over high water and the ebb with lots of undersize whiting hitting the baits before the codling could get through.
Fresh from her win of the ladies prize at the club's recent open match at Cleveleys in October, lady member Sherryl Bellfield, based in Leeds showed the lads, including husband Gary, how to do it when she bagged two codlings for 4lb 1oz including the heaviest single fish in the match of 2lb 8oz.
Second placed was new member Paul Jackson with a bag of 2lb 2oz comprising flounder and whiting. Third placed came Tom Brimley from Euxton with a bag of flounder and whiting to 2lb 7oz. Current club top rod Alan Smith sneaked in a 2lb 2oz codling to win both second heaviest fish and fourth place in the match to maintain his bid for the club's 2001 league champion's trophy.
The club meets at 8pm on the first Tuesday of the month at the Conservative Club, Stump Lane, Chorley. New members are welcome including ladies and juniors and enjoys the advantage of having their own Sea Angler magazine endorsed casting instructor.
