Leigh make heavy work of it LEIGH continued their return to form with a hard-earned win at Ormskirk.
Early exchanges were even with both sides willing to run with the ball, but a handling error by Leigh allowed Ormskirk to set up an attack resulting in a penalty to the home side and a lead of 3-0.
Leigh replied quickly when centre Fisher put Wright in the clear for an unconverted try in the corner.
Leigh were struggling for good quality ball from the set pieces and Ormskirk restored their lead when some loose tackling saw them cross for an unconverted try of their own for a 8-5 lead and Leigh were lucky not to go further behind when the home side missed two attempts at goal following defensive mistakes.
Ainscough replaced Browning following an injury and Leigh came back when Murray made the initial break and good support play put Bridge in for a touchdown.
Greenwood narrowly missed the touchline conversion for a half-time lead of 10-8 for Leigh.
Tension was increased when Leigh's habit of conceding unnecessary penalties at ruck and maul situations saw Ormskirk reduce the lead to 18-20 but Leigh finished strongly when Wright set up a good position with a clever chip ahead. The resulting ball was moved quickly across the field for Murray to score in the opposite corner to clinch victory 25-18.
Leigh's youthful duo of Greenwood and Fisher were outstanding in the backs, well prompted by the experienced Murray with Bate and Ainscough, having his first outing, catching the eye in the forwards.
