HOW happy I was to read the story about the plans for Chorley's new bus station -- and about time too! (Citizen, November 29).
As a pensioner, who has never held a driving licence, I rely on public transport to get around and use Chorley's bus station on a regular basis.
Currently, the bus station seems so impersonal and cold with a huge lack of customer-friendly service once you've stepped off the bus.
But this new proposal in Clifford Street sounds wonderful -- too good to be true perhaps?
When I hear stories about demolishing the bus station in Preston -- a huge, ugly monstrosity -- and how the people are upset at the thought of losing a would-be listed building, it makes me wonder.
The bus station in Preston is very well used with facilities which are second to none. In fact it sounds very much like the proposed Chorley bus station.
But if the Preston's bus station is not good enough for them why are we getting one similar?
Why don't we wait until Preston has re-vamped their bus station before leaping ahead, making alterations to ours? We might learn a thing or two from the town that already enjoys a wonderful bus station.
