ATHERTON Town completed a seven day derby double over neighbours Pennington with a 3-0 home Premier Division victory.

Following the previous Saturday's 1-0 away win, Town remain unbeaten after 12 games to head the table by three points with three games in hand.

There has been much, however, over the two games against the current table-toppers to give Pennington manager Mike Hardman positive signs that his side can climb clear of the drop zone.

"We played well again," he said. "Town just had too much fire power for us but there was a lot in the way we played that I was pleased with."

It was players formerly with his club who did the damage as Daniel Christie got the first on 40 minutes and Clinton McLoughlin with superb control and magical overhead kick getting the second.

A further boost for Town manager Shaun Lynch came as striker Andy Morris. on his return from a lengthy absence. scored the third.

Paul Bohannon at centre back and striker Karl Caffrey caught the eye for Pennington with the Town Leighton Packaging man of the match award going to midfielder Mark Warburton.

Elton Fold could hardly be in better form going into next Saturdays Lancashire FA Amateur Challenge Shield quarter final tie at Charnock Richard.

On Saturday Guy Mallinsons side moved into the top three in the Premier Division table with the 5-1 thrashing of Dukinfield Town.

Paul Owen got the first of an eventual hat-trick when he stuck out a foot on 15 minutes to convert Steve Dearden's mis-hit shot and after the visitors had responded two minutes later he fired home from the penalty spot on 20 minutes following Keith Ingham being bowled over.

Dukinfield's task became a tall order on 35 minutes when they had a player sent off for an off-the-ball incident. Fold striker Ingham struck a beauty for the third on the hour mark with a 30 yard scorching free kick.

Owen completed his three from close range on 75 minutes when the visitors keeper failed to hold Steve Smith's shot. Five minutes from time John Price hit a left foot drive from 25 yards to find the back of the net via a post.

Fold Reserves won 3-0 at Willows with goals from Mike Rose (2) and Derek Alderton.
