IN reply to Mr Clive Nightingale's letter about the refusal of planning permission for a hotel at the Beehive Public House, we the residents would like to thank the Bolton Planning Committee for having the good sense to reject it.
How would Mr Nightingale like a hotel at the bottom of his garden, or live in a pensioner's flat with lights shining in all night?
How would he like to try and get down Austins Lane and on to the roundabout first thing in the morning or try to get his children to Claypool School? It's horrendous now without the added traffic from a hotel.
At least the Reebok, Middlebrook, Tesco Extra is not at the bottom of someone's garden, or stopping people from getting to work.
Why did Punch Inns want to build here? At Middlebrook we have the Holiday Inn and the De Vere Hotel, plus the Swallowfield Hotel up the road. Most Travel Inns are built in non residential areas.
Perhaps they hoped to take advantage of the Commonwealth Games next year and boost business at the pub.
Mr Nightingale says a 60 bed hotel is nothing to him (he doesn't live in the area), but it means a great deal to the residents who would have had to live with it.
