Man of the Match
PAUL WARHURST
HE will be carpeted for losing his cool but the rest of his performance oozed class. He was the game's most dominant figure by a mile in the first 45, breaking up Derby attacks, creating space and pulling the strings.
Moan of the Match
THE defending on the goal was poor but Wanderers had enough possession for it not to have mattered. Yet, until they launched a desperate late bid, the final ball was rarely up to scratch.
MAGIC MOMENT
HE is one of the youngest in the Premiership but Nolan is winning so many midfield duels, the latest when he robbed and ran away from Powell, whose petulant reaction betrayed his anger and embarrassment.
KICK BY KICK
15 mins: Ricketts gets just in front of Higginbotham toprod Gardner's cross narrowly wide after superb work by Warhurst and Nolan.
19 mins: Gardner feeds Ricketts on the left, the cross is good but just a yard too strong for Wallace.
30 mins: Christie wastes a chance, firing Zavagno's cross high into the crowd.
42 mins: Nolan goes desperately close, poking a shot that beats Poom but drifts wide.
43 mins: Wanderers escape as Ravanelli turns Grenet's cross against the crossbar.
Half-time: Derby 0, Wanderers 0.
48 mins: Ravanelli returns the compliment, crossing for Grenet to head just off target.
53 mins: Jaaskelainen gets away with a miscued clearance as Christie slices his shot embarrassingly wide of the unguarded goal.
55 mins: Bergsson is the master! Ravanelli has a yard start in the chase for Carbone's pass but the Italian is always second best.
58 mins: Charlton and Gardner create the opportunity and Nolan finds the space to fire in a firm shot which Poom does well to cover.
60 mins: Powell doesn't like Nolan getting the better of him and has a nasty dig at the youngster.
GOAL!
66 mins: Carbone chases Higginbotham's pass to the bye-line, delivers the cross and Christie gets in front of Bergsson and Whitlow to score with a first-time shot.
68 mins: Christie meets Zavagno's cross and is denied a second by Jaaskelainen's super save.
71 mins: Gardner gets round Higginbotham and Zavagno with lightning pace; the angle is tight but he pulls his shot wide.
73 mins: Warhurst is the instigator and Gardner supplies the cross but Ricketts puts his header over Poom's crossbar.
75 mins: Warhurst is booked for throwing the ball contemptuously at Carbone, who is on the ground making a meal of Nolan's tackle.
79 mins: Another telling pass from Higginbotham gives Christie another chance but Whitlow is back to tidy up.
80 mins: Nolan and Holdsworth go close as Wanderers have the Rams on the rack.
82 mins: Riggott sticks out a foot and deflects Holdsworth's goal-bound shot over the bar.
84 mins: Powell survives appeals for handball as Wanderers lay siege to the Derby penalty area.
87 mins: Jaaskelainen saves well from Burton to keep Wanderers in with a chance.
Full-time: Derby 1, Wanderers 0.
