THE alley where the body was found is a dead end and runs behind several of the houses in Crawford Avenue and Bromwich Street.
Residents claim they are too frightened to use the passageway because of the lack of lighting.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "We have been trying for a long time to get something done about that alleyway.
"There is no light and it is pitch black at night time. If something is to come out of this, it should be the council sorting out the street.
"We want it to be lit up at night and we intend to take the matter further."
Another resident added: "The back street is used for all sorts of goings on.
"Cars go up and down, there are often condoms left in the alleyway and I am sure drug users hang around.
"I want to see something done about it. I am not sure if lights would make a difference, as untoward activities often go on in broad daylight, but I would like to see the street blocked off.
"It would be tragic if it took this person's death to get something done."
Anyone with information about the murder should call the incident room on 0161 856 5640.
