THE mother of teenage terror Shane Gibbons has branded an order which bans him from part of Bolton for five years as "unfair".

Trisha Gibbons, of Nevis Grove, Sharples, believes her son has been made a scapegoat to deter other teenagers from crime.

Shane, aged 14, is currently in a young offenders institution but will be banned from areas of the Oldhams estate for five years following his release early next year.

Mrs Gibbons, who went to visit her son on Monday, said: "I think he is being made into a scapegoat to stop other kids but he isn't as bad as people are saying.

"He has been accused of robbing children on the way home from school but he never did that. It is all lies and it is unfair."

Shane's offences listed in court included beating people up and robbing them, breaking into schools and houses, taking Class A drugs, and carrying weapons including an air rifle and machete.

He will not be allowed to enter areas including Sharples Leisure Centre, Barlow Park and nearby old people's accommodation, shops in Mackenzie Street of the local authority housing office.

If he breaks any part of the order he will be brought back to court and could face up to five years in prison.

David Crausby, MP for Bolton North-east, has been pushing for more anti-social behaviour orders to be imposed.

He said: "I would like to congratulate Bolton Council because it is not easy to bring these orders but I get an enormous amount of mail from people complaining about problems caused by young lads.

"We have got to protect residents and they shouldn't have to wait until things get so bad that these offenders have to be sent to prison. I am hopeful that these orders will work with perseverance and help from the public."

He encouraged people to report offenders to their MPs, the police and council.
