A MAN who suffered "abominably" at school because no one spotted his dyslexia has been awarded more than £50,000 compensation, it emerged today.

Robin Johnson, 25, from Bramhall, Stockport, was awarded £52,500 after Stockport County Court decided Stockport Council should take responsibility for Mr Johnson's schooling difficulties.

His solicitor, Mike Morgan, of O'Neill Morgan solicitors, said Mr Johnson was tormented at school by bullies who teased him for his disability.

Mr Morgan said: "Robin's entire education and career prospects have suffered abominably due to the inability of his teachers to recognise his dyslexic tendencies, despite the fact his parents constantly voiced their concerns.

"He has endured prolonged bullying and developed a compulsive eating disorder, which has ultimately affected him and his emotional development."

Despite struggling with school from the age of six, it was not until Mr Johnson reached 13 that he was diagnosed as severely dyslexic.

After school, Mr Johnson completed a NVQ Level Two Diploma in Vocational Education but could not hold down a full-time job, working as a tomato picker, kitchen assistant and aircraft cleaner.

He now works as an IT technician at Polar Technology Ltd in Hazel Grove and is set to marry his girlfriend this summer.
