A BOLTON MP has been touring the town's primary schools to find out what really matters -- to the under 11s.

Brian Iddon is visiting schools as part of a "put it to your MP" campaign.

And he has found that concerns about drugs, crime and the environment start at a very early age.

At Bishop Bridgeman School, Rupert Street, the children were full of questions for the Bolton South-east MP, from how much he earns, to what was being done to stop bogus officials preying on the town's elderly.

One 10-year-old boy even asked how he was going to get through university without the grants system.

At Sunning Hill County Primary School, Goldsmith Street, children talked of their fears about the school being attacked by vandals.

They told Dr Iddon they had even put posters in nearby shops appealing to people to be more considerate to the school.

They also asked him to support their campaign for a pelican crossing next to the school and Dr Iddon has written to Bolton Council on their behalf.

"The children have a great interest in issues the same as adults do and this is the point of the exercise," he said.

"What I am finding so far is that children's concerns are nearly the same as those of older people."

He will also be visiting Queen Street Primary, Harper Green Primary and George Tomlinson schools.
