BOLTON Town Council advertise "All the great shopping facilities of Bolton".
I am an ex-Boltonian with very fond memories of growing up in the town. Yes, I remember flying down Wigan Road on the tram, walking with a pram full of coke from the gasworks in Moor Lane to Daubhill. I also did my apprenticeship as a motor mechanic in Bolton
My wife and I loved shopping in Bolton -- but not any more!
I am disabled and have an orange badge. On January 25 I parked in the Market Place Car Park, all the disabled bays were full. I did as normal, and parked in a nearby empty bay and displayed my badge correctly.
On returning to our car we found a parking ticket for £60 and a broken wiper blade as well.
All other councils tell the badge holder to find an empty space and display the badge when disabled bays are full.
I must admit, when my carer walked round after she found a sign about pay and display, even for badge holders. So I have to pay up.
Surely the council can't expect the disabled to go round searching for a sign.
Sorry Bolton, you must wake up and not try entrapment. Trafford, Bury, Leigh and Wigan all have free bays for the disabled, marked or unmarked. In Atherton Car Park it's free for all cars.
In future I shall be using one of the other towns for shopping and parking. As a pensioner, I can't afford to pay parking fines and repair wiper blades on top of shopping costs.
