CHILDREN can look forward to bags full of surprises thanks to the hard work of members of a family learning community project.
A group has been meeting at St Chad's Church Hall in Tonge Fold to make storysacks for Breightmet library.
The storysacks, which are large cloth bags containing a children's book and items connected to the theme of the novel such as soft toys as well as an audio cassette recording of the book, have been designed to encourage children and parents to read together. Members of the community project, which has been run by Bolton Community College, have now completed 10 sacks which they presented to the library in Breightmet Drive.
Learning project manager Anne Waddicar said: "About 10 people have helped make them and we will be carrying on to make more.
"We are always looking for new faces and anyone who can knit, sew, make games, read stories or brew up is more than welcome!"
Anyone interested in helping to make more storysacks should contact Sue or Val on 332410 or visit St Chad's Hall on a Wednesday between 9.30am-11.30am.
A free creche is available.
