WHITBREAD staff in the Bolton area have raised approximately £30,000 for Christie Hospital.
Marriott Worsley Park Hotel collected an amazing £22,000 alone, from a ball, fashion shows and many other activities.
The money raised will support research into cancer diagnosis and young people's cancers, which has proved to be an excellent motivation.
Angela Roden, Christie's Appeal Director, was presented the cheque by Peter Bech, the regional director for Whitbread North West and Michael Glover, North West regional sales manager, for a total of £80,000 from the whole of the North West.
In return she gave them Christie certificates and badges in recognition of their superb work she said: "I am absolutely amazed by what the companies have achieved, particularly in the Bolton area. It has been great they have worked very hard."
Another local company which has made a great contribution is David Lloyd Leisure, based on Chorley Street. They did sponsored fitness days, fancy dress, 24 hour cycles and other events. They will also be taking part in events in the future.
Regional staff have pledged to carry on the fundraising until they reach a six figure target of £250,000 by holding other events, including entering a large team in the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride on June 16.
Michael Glover, who is also chairman of the fundraising committee and is running the London Marathon for the charity, said: "People from different branches have come together in a common cause."
