AFTER reading Saturday's BEN story headed "Council is so cross", I think that some form of safe crossing across the now busy Church Street in Westhoughton is long overdue.
I have waited many times as long as 10 minutes, sometimes in pouring rain, to cross. And when I have finally plucked up enough courage to make the dash to the other side, some budding Sterling Moss will appear from nowhere round the corner, sounding their horns loudly, and sometimes hurling abuse at you.
There is a doctor's surgery on one side, a chemist shop on the other. Elderly people leaving the surgery to collect their prescriptions are dicing with death. It is a disaster waiting to happen.
