YOURI Djorkaeff - a World Cup winner with France - is believed to be the latest ambitious transfer target Sam Allardyce has singled out as he tries desperately to keep Wanderers in the Premiership.
But a report on Sky Sport said Djorkaeff fancied a move to England to clubs managed by Frenchmen who are mounting title challenges - Liverpool and Arsenal!
There has been no comment from the Reebok in response to tabloid speculation that the 33-year-old former international midfielder - currently with top German club Kaiserslautern - has flown to England to discuss a possible loan move to Bolton.
But Allardyce, having recently signed the German international striker Fredi Bobic from Borussia Dortmund in a similar deal, continues to set his transfer sights high and is understood to have checked out Djorkaev's availability.
The much-travelled midfielder spent six years at Grenoble and one season in 1990 at Strasbourg before Monaco snapped him up. He spent four seasons there, one season at Paris SG and three years at Inter-Milan. He joined Kaiserslauten in 1999 but has only played four games for them this season.
He has 74 full caps for France.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports carried this report this afternoon:
LIVERPOOL have dismissed claims by French ace Youri Djorkaeff that he has been approached about a move to Anfield.
Djorkaeff is expected to leave German club Kaiserslautern before the end of this season in an attempt to breathe life into his campaign to retain his place in France's squad for the World Cup finals.
The former PSG, Monaco and Inter Milan ace is keen on a move to the Premiership as the transfer window is currently closed in Italy, Spain, France, and Germany.
"In the English Premiership league there are notable clubs that are challenging for the title, of which two are managed by a Frenchman," said Djorkaeff when asked who was after his services.
"We have until March 31 to find a solution because over there the market is rather peculiar. But I'd prefer not to rush into anything right now."
Liverpool, however, have denied the claim and stressed that they ended their transfer activity for the time being with the loan signing of Djorkaeff's France team-mate Nicolas Anelka from PSG.
