Big Games vacancies bonanza A jobs bonanza is set to be created in Greater Manchester this summer as recruitment begins for the Commonwealth Games.
Thousands of vacancies are being made available for the 10-day period in bars, restaurants and the athletes village.
While most of the jobs are based in Manchester, successful candidates from outlying boroughs including Bolton and Bury will be transported into the city on free buses to take up positions.
Full-time and part-time jobs are available, with hundreds of people required to work alongside athletes at the Commonwealth Village in Manchester.
Waiters and waitresses are in particular demand alongside kiosk staff, supervisors, managers and porters.
Jobs will also be available in the Food Hall, a complex the size of two football pitches based at SportsCity, home of the City of Manchester Stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies will take place.
Training days will take place in May.
In Bolton, pubs, clubs and restaurants are expected to take on extra staff.
Horwich, which is hosting badminton at Bolton Arena, and Rivington, where the cycling race will take place, will be packed with thousands of extra people this summer.
A Commonwealth Games spokesman said: "The event will be a huge boost for the region.
"Thousands of athletes and up to a million spectators are expected to travel to Manchester and Bolton. The event will need quality staff."
The Games will be the most significant multi-sport event to be held in Britain since the 1948 Olympics.
