AIR MILES Manchester League: THE disappointment of being held to a 2-2 home draw by Willows was compounded for Leigh Athletic as title rivals Stockport Georgians beat Prestwich Heys 2-1 to go two points clear at the top of the table with three games in hand.
In Division One Breightmet United extended their unbeaten run to eight games, the last six straight victories, with a 2-1 way victory at Avro after being a goal behind at the break.
In atrocious conditions United had the home side under constant pressure, Paul Smith hitting a post and Faisal Mohmed mis-kicking in front of goal, only to be caught out when Avro scored with what was effectively their only attack of the first half.
The equaliser came on 70 minutes when Paul Fletcher advanced down the left and crossed for Smith to head home. Keeper Nick Baxter pulled off a wonder save before Mohmed beat three players and returned the ball to Damien Harper who had set him off in the first place to fire home an 87th minute winner. Only a last ditch tackle by John Lea in the final minute prevented the home side levelling the scores.
Hindsford had to eventually settle for a 3-3 home draw with Manchester Royal but missed chances made this two points dropped rather than one gained for Pete Barry's side. The Reserves lost 3-2 at Monton Amateurs.
Atherton Town Reserves still head the Division Two table but went down to only a third league defeat in 21 games played in a 4-2 setback at Wythenshawe Amateurs. Daniel Christie got both Town goals with Gary O'Hagan Leighton Packaging man of the match. Leigh Athletic Reserves won 2-1 at Ashton Athletic.
