A DRUG addict was spotted by a store detective trying to steal cake and custard, a court was told.
Michael Douglas Gillard, aged 22, of Hibernia Street, Deane, attempted to shoplift items worth a total of £1.74 from a shop in Chorley Old Road, on December 16, five days after being convicted for an earlier shoplifting offence.
Gillard was also accused of failing to surrender on January 8.
He pleaded guilty to both offences.
Bolton magistrates were told that Gillard was reliant upon heroin and had been homeless at the time of the offence.
Magistrates adjourned the case until February 28 for a pre-sentence report. Gillard was granted conditional bail.
