A SCHOOL was evacuated today as a fierce fire swept through a science laboratory.
The fire started in the science lab at Westleigh High School in Westleigh Lane shortly after 10.30am. All the pupils were evacuated and later sent home. No one was injured.
The lab is a single storey building detached from the main school. Early reports suggest the cause of the fire could be be accidental.
Roads near the school were closed as up to 50 firefighters fought to bring the blaze under control. Firemen managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the school.
