RESIDENTS are being driven mad by proposals to put double yellow lines outside their home.
People living on Halstead Street, Bolton, have expressed annoyance at plans to put parking restrictions along one side of their road.
A parking scheme is set to be introduced on many roads around Castle Street in a bid to stop motorists leaving their cars outside people's homes and walking into town.
The double yellow lines are part of that plan.
Kenneth Halliwell, aged 58, said: "I'm not very happy about this at all. I don't mind paying £30 to park outside my own home, but I'm damned if I'm forking that amount out and not being able to park outside.
"There's no need for double yellow lines. There will be more cars on Halstead Street than other places if this goes ahead."
Mr Halliwell, who has lived in the area for 15 years, has been told he could park in his back yard but he said he used it for recreational purposes.
He added: "I don't think councillors would like it if I told them to park on their lawn."
The scheme is set to come into force within months and will see permits issued for residents and their visitors. Bolton Council has said it will see how successful a trial period is before deciding whether to make the restrictions on Castle Street permanent.
