MOTHER and daughter Janet and Emily Rashleigh created history when they competed in the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships.
The Horwich Harriers duo will represent Greater Manchester at Wollaton Park in Nottingham, with Janet in the senior ladies race and Emily in the U13s.
The two Harriers are looking forward to the event and delighted they will complete a unique family double.
For mum Janet it will be her eighth Inter-Counties event, with last year's 22nd placing her best ever finish. Janet, aged 40, is enjoying another successful cross country season and recently finished 11th in the Northern Championships at Derby.
Emily, aged 11, has made the grade despite athletics playing second fiddle to her favourite sport of swimming for which she trains six times a week. Her swimming helps keep her very fit and her long term ambition is to win an Olympic medal, with the 400m and 800m freestyle her favoured disciplines.
A spokesman for Horwich Harriers said: "Janet and Emily can rightly be proud of each other's achievements, and equally the Harriers are proud and delighted for the pair of them. Emily and Janet are both determined and enthusiastic competitors, so who knows, one day we may well be seeing both competing against each other in the same national race."
