KINDHEARTED Madalina Richardson had only one thought on her mind when she heard that she had been chosen for a top honour.
"But what a shame for the other children who didn't win," she said.
Her mum, Kath Richardson, said Madi's reaction on hearing the news that she was a prestigious national award winner was typical.
She explained: "Madi always thinks of other people. She is a very thoughtful little girl, not at all self-centred."
Tomorrow, the 10-year-old, who spent the first five years of her life languishing in a Romanian orphanage, will be one of 150 youngsters from all over the country to be presented with a Child of Achievement Award.
It is well justified recognition for a brave youngster who continues to triumph over adversity.
In spite of having a disabled arm Madi rides a bicycle, plays netball, is learning the piano and cornet, and loves to get stuck in on the football pitch.
She is also an inspiration to other children as she continues to fund-raise, with her adoptive parents Kath, aged 51, and 53-year-old Dave, for youngsters in Romania.
Madi was nominated for the award by her headteacher, Valerie Skinner, and teacher Emma Gibson at St Peter's Smithills Dean Church of England School in Limefield Road, Smithills.
Mrs Skinner said: "There is such a lot about this child that made her worth considering for this award and that is why I decided we should enter her."
The Child of Achievement Awards, to be presented by celebrities including author J K Rowling and television presenter Gaby Roslin at the London Hilton, are designed to recognise remarkable children.
Each child who is earmarked for an award, out of 10,000 entries, receives a trophy and certificate.
Madi came to Bolton for treatment on her arm after being spotted in the orphanage by Kath and Dave, who tirelessly fund-raise for Romania through their "Good News for Romania" charity.
The little girl stayed with the Richardsons, while she underwent treatment and was, last year, adopted by the couple.
Madi, who lives in Heaton, speaks fluent English and is a big fan of Bolton Wanderers.
Madi said she was "very excited" about going to the award ceremony in London.
