BOLTON Under 15s won their first match of the season when they beat Wigan 4-0 in the Greater Manchester Schools League, last week.
The local youngsters have had a torrid time this season losing their first eight games in a row.
Their fortunes changed when they made progress into the quarter final of the North West Alder Cup after Rossendale withdrew from the competition following two postponements due to waterlogged pitches in Rossendale.
And Bolton followed that with a super 4-0 victory against Wigan in the Greater Manchester League.
The town team were given some help when Wigan put through their own goal in the first minute and they went on to take a 4-0 half time lead with goals from Tom Birchby, David Edwards and Nicky Adams.
Delighted team manager Jason Nash said: "The team did extremely well and we did not have any new players. The same lads, who have lost the first eight games, played their best games of the season."
Bolton face a tough test in the quarter finals of the Alder Cup having been drawn away to local rivals Bury.
Bury came unstuck last weekend going down 4-1 to Trafford in the Greater Manchester League. Michael Wilkinson scored the Bury goal.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Under 19s have made it into the semi final of the Northern Counties competition.
The county's senior schoolboy side finished second in their group and will now travel to meet Durham.
Merseyside will meet Northumberland in the other semi final tie.
