THE six second rule appertaining to goalkeepers holding on to the ball is only one of many infringements which go unpunished until it happens to Bolton Wanderers.

Could it possibly have anything to do with Sam Allardyce's criticism of referees?

Other infringements which are unpunished are:

1. Shirt pulling -- the offended player usually gets booked for using his arms to fee himself

2. Blatant obstruction by defenders shielding the ball to gain a goal kick.

3. Gaining three or four yards in running to take a throw-in after the referee has pointed to the place for it to be taken.

4. Pretending to take a throw-in and then passing the ball to another player five or six yards away to waste time.

These are all offences. Football is becoming a cynical game.
