FAN'S VIEW Adrian Ford: Wanderers produced 90 minutes of determination and sheer hard graft to climb out of the relegation zone with their first Premiership win in 13 attempts.
It was never going to be a classic under the circumstances while a strong win did little to aid the game as a spectacle. Getting a result was all that mattered and, although it was nailbiting at times, Wanderers deserved their reward for the amount of commitment they displayed.
New signing Stig Tofting lived up to his reputation as a competitive midfielder with a busy and tenacious debut. The Danish international also possesses a prodigious long throw - one of which found its way, via Fredi Bobic and Mike Whitlow, to the in-form Ricardo Gardner, who won the day with a cracking shot from the edge of the box seven minutes before half time.
True, West Ham were missing key players but that simply emphasised the significance of Wanderers' own resources being so severely stretched in recent weeks.
Wanderers were pushed back for long spells during the second half but resilient defending offered the Hammers few clear-cut sights of goal.
Mike Whitlow merits special mention for such a fine performance after again taking the knocks following his midweek injury scare while congratulations are in order for Michael Ricketts on his call-up to the England squad.
Man of the Match: Bruno N'Gotty.
