HINDLEY boxer Mark Paxford added another win to his professional boxing record with a points victory over Nottingham's Richard Inqueti at the Preston Guild Hall.
Mark is now unbeaten in five contests -- with just a controversial draw on his debut spoiling a perfect record.
Mark was cheered on by a very large and vocal following from Hindley, who were on their feet as he powered into an early lead winning the first two rounds clearly with an impressive display of power punching.
Many were surprised that Inqueti made it through the first round as Paxford trapped him on the ropes and unloaded a series of blows to head and body. Inqueti proved his toughness, however, by coming back into the fight in the third round -- a round that he won on the referees scorecard -- as Mark lost concentration and maybe got a bit carried away by the success he had achieved in the first two rounds.
He regained control in the fourth round and showed excellent fitness and stamina to finished the six round contest strongly to secure a 58 pts to 56 pts victory. The scoreline indicating that Mark had won four of the six rounds, however, he would have won five of the six rounds if he had not had a point deducted in the final round for hitting Inqueti after the referee had told them to stop boxing.
