IT was Madi Richardson's big day and she was determined to enjoy it.
The plucky youngster collected her Child of Achievement Award in London and declared the day "brilliant".
Madi, aged 10, was at the London Hilton, one of 200 youngsters to be recognised for their bravery and courage.
She was nominated for the national award by her school, St Peters Smithills Dean, to mark her zest for life and determination to help others.
Madi left a Romanian orphanage to stay with Kath and Dave Richardson at their Heaton home while she had treatment on a disabled arm.
Last year she was adopted by the Richardsons and Madi continues to help youngsters in her home country by raising money through sponsored events.
She amazes everyone who meets her with her determination and smiling face. In spite of her disability she rides a bicycle, plays the piano and cornet, and loves to play football.
On Sunday she went to London to be presented with a certificate and trophy to mark her incredible achievements.
She met celebrities, including Harry Potter author J K Rowling, TV presenter Gaby Roslin and other television stars.
Madi said: "It was a brilliant day. The best bit was when I went on to the stage and got my trophy."
She was looking forward to showing the trophy to her friends at school.
Madi was accompanied on the exciting day out by Kath, aged 51 and 53-year-old Dave. They all enjoyed a meal at the Hilton, met the celebrity guests who gave out autographs, and then attended the presentation.
The youngster received a bag of goodies and a voucher for a family holiday. Kath said it had been a very exciting day for all the family. "We had a lovely time. It was all very well organised and Madi loved it. We got the chance to meet other children who were receiving their awards and celebrities, so it was a very special day."
