DIVISION Two table-toppers Howe Bridge Mills came within a hairsbreadth of a giant-killing act in the quarter final of the Redwaters Coronation Cup.
Two goals in five minutes around the half hour mark for Division One outfit Leigh Avenue proved to be just enough to fend off of a late second half rally from the underdogs.
Paul Anderson gave the home side the initiative on 30 minutes with Craig Faulkner adding what proved to be the killer second five minutes later.
Mills fought back gamely in the second half but it was just three minutes before the final whistle when David Hogan finally got the breakthrough and Avenue were able to hold on. The cup tie was the only game to beat the weather in the Leigh League.
