ELTON Fold crashed out of the Gilgryst Cup at the Round Two stage in a 1-0 defeat at Stockport Georgians with manager Guy Mallinson making no excuses.
"I can't fault the lads for effort but being realistic we never really created anything," he says. "Our keeper was busier than theirs so you have to say on that alone that they deserved the win. It was a really heavy surface and the howling wind made play scrappy.
"Their goal was put in by a substitute on 70 minutes but we have only ourselves to blame as we had three chances to have cleared the danger."
Pennington's woes continues in a 5-0 drubbing at New Mills. Two goals each from Steve Littler and Steve Done plus one from Dean Morgan saw the Derbyshire outfit cruise home.
Mike Hardman's Pennington side has shown admirable fight under difficult circumstances all season but remains rock bottom of the Division One table with just one win and two draws for a five point total from 20 games played.
In Division Two Elton Fold Reserves surprisingly went down 4-3 at home to East Manchester, goals coming from John McDermott, Dave Malius and Derek Watson.
Breightmet United Reserves shook off recent indifferent form to register a fine 4-1 home win over Wythenshawe Amateurs. Leigh Athletic Reserves head the Division Three table by a massive 18 points following a 2-2 away draw at Royton Town. The playing record for Latics' second-stringers in their debut season in the Manchester League reads played 19, won 16, drawn 2, lost just one.
