FRENCH international Youri Djorkaeff has had his contract cancelled by Kaiserslautern president Juergen Friedrich and is now free to complete a transfer to Wanderers.

Djorkaeff had showdown talks last month with the German club, which later insisted the Frenchman would see out his contract until the summer.

But after finally agreeing to terminate his contract, Friedrich said he now expected Djorkaeff to join Bolton, but refused to release any financial details about the move.

Djorkaeff was desperate to quit Kaiserslautern, where he is at war with coach Andreas Brehme, in time to push for a place in the France squad for the World Cup.

He was left out when manager Roger Lemerre named his party to take on Romania in Paris this week and hinted that he had subsequently been told to find first-team football quickly.

Djorkaeff, whose former PSG team-mate Bruno N'Gotty is already at Bolton, said: "Physically I'm fine, I can't wait to start playing. It's more about what I feel and what I need right now."

The France 98 and Euro 2000 star was furious at failing to make the Kaiserslautern team after a recent return to full fitness.

"They are trying to make me doubt my own ability," complained the 33-year-old, who came back as a substitute against Borussia Monchenglabach, but did not play. "I am sick of it."

Djorkaeff found himself out of favour with the Red Devils following the arrival of Brehme as manager in October 2000.

He was then linked with moves to Marseille, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. He has been training regularly but has not played a full Bundesliga game since injuring ligaments in his right ankle against Schalke 04 on October 27.

He also told www.skysports.com: "I have met Sam Allardyce who came to see me and tell me all about the club and their goals. I would rather go to a club fighting relegation than a mid-table team. Every point will count. I will have a lot of responsibilities and that's what I need right now.

"He told me that the team would play for me and they would more or less give me the keys to the shop. I would play like a No-9-and-a-half alongside a centre-forward.

"West Ham and Aston Villa were also in contact but I had to make a quick decision because time is moving on. Bolton are the most interesting club for me and they were the most interested in me."
