THIS Valentine's Day, thousands of romantic cards will drop on the doormats of lovers everywhere.
But for May and her partner, Jack, CB radio is the way to send sweet nothings -- even if you are well into your 80s!
Jack, aged 86, and May, aged 87, met seven years ago -- on Valentine's Day -- when he offered her a lift home from a shopping trip.
"It was pouring with rain," recalls May, "and he kindly offered me a lift home in his car."
The couple, who both live in Bolton, enjoy trips and outings and when they couldn't see each other, they kept in regular contact by phone.
"Our phone bills were so high," says May, "that Jack came up with the idea of keeping in contact through CB radio.
"He'd been a keen user for many years and fixed up a set in my house so now we keep in touch through that.
"We radio each other every morning to make sure we are both okay."
Jack says: "I first started using a radio when I was a teenager and have been keen ever since. May and I keep in touch through it on the days we don't see each other."
The couple have also embraced 21st century technology and have recently completed a computing course at the SRB4 Family Learning Centre in Tonge Fold, receiving certificates to commemorate their achievement. Jack has since embarked on a multimedia course.
