THREE primary schools in Bolton have been singled out as some of the country's top performers.
Turton and Edgworth CE Methodist Primary School, Walmsley CE Primary School in Egerton and Claypool County Primary School in Horwich have been included in a national list of schools which have proved "particularly successful" according to Ofsted inspectors.
Their achievements were due to be outlined to Government ministers this week when Ofsted presented their annual report to Parliament.
Ofsted inspectors visited 3,500 primary and nursery schools across the country last year and the Bolton schools were three of 220 primary schools recognised for their outstanding inspection reports and good exam results.
Headteacher at Turton and Edgworth Primary School in Bolton Road, Ann Bennett, claimed the accolade was a tribute to the persistent hard work and commitment shown by the school's teachers, governors, parents and pupils.
She said: "We are very proud of this recognition which we feel acknowledges the effort and quality of work everyone involved in the school puts in on a daily basis."
Their last Ofsted report commented on the school's "high standards in English, Maths and Science."
It also remarked on "an excellent team spirit."
Walmsley Primary's head-teacher, Pat Ashton, said: "We knew we had done really, really well and there had been hints that we would be included on the list, but it's still a nice surprise and all the staff are very pleased.
"It's not just about exam results, but things like out-of-school activities.
"We are always looking at ways to improve and look at things very analytically.
"When we are sent information from the Government we read it very carefully and take it on board in a way which allows continuity."
Claypool Primary School was described as "excellent" in its last Ofsted report and received personal praise from Schools Standards Minister Estelle Morris.
Their last Ofsted report said "pupils in all classes are very eager to learn, are interested in their work and behave very well.
"The quality of teaching is very good. The head-teacher, staff, parents and governors work very effectively as a team."
Headteacher Glenys Evans said: "We are very pleased indeed.
"It's a nice reflection for all the hard work that goes into the school.
"We are trying to develop the school in its many facets - it's about the rounded package and not just about the SATs results."
