PENSIONER Rita Carney was given a heart-warming Valentine's surprise at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
Heart consultant Dr Peter Scott set pulses racing after handing her a bouquet of red roses, courtesy of local florist Octagon Flowers.
Mrs Carney, aged 59, had suffered a heart attack days earlier.
She said: "My husband has really been outdone this time! What a marvellous surprise."
Shop owner Simon Stirling explained: "We wanted to bring a little Valentine cheer to patients on the heart unit.
"Valentine's Day is the time for hearts and roses. We thought it would be fitting to send flowers to heart patients who have gone through such an ordeal."
Staff on the unit, who provide intensive nursing for heart attack patients, were also given a colourful bouquet from the florist for having "hearts of gold". ALL HEART: Dr Scott hands the bouquet to Rita Carney
