THIS letter is for the driver who was travelling along Crompton Way at approximately 6.30pm last Tuesday evening and hit and killed my pet Jack, a seven year old Jack Russell loved by everyone who knew him.
I'd like him or her to know that I realise it was impossible for them to avoid what happened and I blame myself if anyone for the accident, because I told my 17-year-old grand-daughter that when she was safely across the road she could let Jack off his lead. Apparently he dashed across the road after another dog or cat he'd spotted.
It would have been appreciated though, if the driver had stopped to help my devastated grand-daughter to bring Jack home instead of just stopping for a few seconds then driving on.
Perhaps the driver was greatly relieved if, after stopping, he saw it was "only a dog" he'd hit and so he drove off. But that little dog was a great little pal and companion to me for the past few years and I can't believe, even myself, how heartbroken and sad I feel because he's gone. So, it would have been nice if the driver had stopped and shown a little concern for what had happened, if only for the sake of my distressed grand-daughter.
