1968: Born Lyon, France, September 3.
1985: Joins French Second Division Group B side Grenoble, making his debut on March 30.
1989: Scores 11 goals in 28 matches for Grenoble in 1998/99 season before moving to Strasbourg.
1990: After a short spell at Strasbourg, he transfers to French First Division side Monaco, where he wins the French Cup the following season.
1992: Monaco reach European Cup Winners' Cup final but lose 2-0 to Werder Bremen.
1993: Makes his international debut in France's 3-2 defeat against Israel.
1994: Is highest scorer in French league with 20 goals.
1995: Moves to Paris St Germain.
1996: In his final game for PSG, he helps them win the Cup Winners' Cup when they beat Rapid Vienna 1-0 in the final. Agrees move to Serie A side Inter Milan. Is named in All-Star squad for European Championships.
1998: Wins the UEFA Cup with Inter and scores eight times in the league. Wins World Cup on home soil.
1999: Moves to Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern, scoring 11 times in his first season.
2000: Scores two goals and is integral part of French side which adds European Championships crown to World Cup triumph.
2001: Falls out with Kaiserslautern coach, former German World Cup winner Andreas Brehme, saying: "It is no longer possible for me to work alongside Andreas Brehme and I will leave this club either on good terms, or bad, but I will leave."
2002: After four league appearances for Kaiserslautern, announces his "imminent" move to Bolton Wanderers as he bids to get into the French World Cup squad.
February 13: Completes a move to Bolton until the end of the season.
