AFTER the loss of the Navada Rink on Spa Road, Bolton, there has been no real provision for skating in Bolton and, with the increasing popularity of roller skating and the advent of roller blades, the youth of Bolton have been crying out for a suitable down town venue.
With Nikki McNamara's letter (Monday, February 11) following closely on the heels of the article regarding the uniquely constructed bus depot and its potential loss to yet another unnecessary supermarket (Friday, February 8) which Bolton does not really need, this would provide an ideal location for a really magnificent skating rink (may be even two, one ice, one roller), or a convertible rink and still have room for adequate parking maybe under cover.
Such an enterprise would also add much prestige to a town seeking to be the next city, which could have the finest rink in the nation.
I think this should be seriously considered and it would also be an attraction both for lottery and EU funding as a sports facility which a supermarket certainly would not.
