IN reply to Mr M Taylor, can I say that I have had several motorised scooters for more than 20 years.
I can only walk a few steps and would be house-bound without mine. There are different sizes and speeds and the four mile an hour scooters are meant for the pavement only, but, many brave (or stupid) people go into the road among the traffic. The eight mile an hour scooters are meant for either and I have these kind and regularly travel in the traffic. But, if you do this, you have to behave as if you are driving a car.
These scooters are not licensed but should be insured. Mr Taylor talks about dropped kerbs, but many times there are none and many times a car is parked over them. You are classed as a pedestrian if you are on the pavement and as a car if you are on the road. The cost of these scooters are terrible for the larger one.
My four year old one was over £3000 and my new one was £4000. I have to have a large one because I am heavy. People will crash into you trolleys and children play on them if you leave it outside a shop.
But, worst of all, are people who walk right across in front of you suddenly and hope you stop. They push in front of you in queues and totally ignore you. I bless mine every time I use it.
