BURY residents are to be handed an inflation-busting 6.5 per cent hike in council tax from April.
The decision will increase bills by nearly £40 to £646 for houses in Band A, and by around £60 to £970 for those in Band D.
Bury town hall bosses blame another poor financial settlement from the Government, allied to overwhelming budget pressures, particularly in social services.
The proposal has to be formally approved by the council on February 27. If it goes ahead, it would mean that Bury Council has imposed total rises of 41 per cent in the last six years.
