POLICE patrols in rural Bolton were stepped up at the weekend in response to a spate of car crime.
Extra marked and unmarked cars took to the streets in Edgworth after thieves stole property from six cars over the last two weekends. Many cars were also badly damaged.
Expensive property including CD players and clothing were snatched from cars in Bury Road, Bolton Road and Edgworth Vale.
Police have warned motorists across the village to be extra vigilant and make sure their vehicles are locked, fearing a gang was behind the incidents.
Four-wheel drive vehicles have been a particular target. Sgt Andrea Bradbury, of Darwen Police, said: "They have mainly been overnight cases. We will step up our presence at night but people should make sure that nothing of value is left in cars." Anyone with information should call Darwen Police on 01254 353844.
