A SHORTLIST of candidates has been put together for the successor of the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police Force.
Mr David Wilmot is due to retire from the police service on September 30th and following a national advertisement, the Greater Manchester Police Authority has chosen four candidates for interview.
They are: Colin Cramphorn, aged 45, Deputy Chief Constable with the Police Service of Northern Ireland; Peter Fahy, aged 42, Deputy Chief Constable with Surrey Police, Tarique Ghaffur, aged 46, Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police and Michael Todd, aged 44, Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police.
The selection process will be completed by 22nd March, 2002.
A spokesman said: "In fairness to all candidates the Police Authority will not be making any further comment about this appointment until the selection process is completed."
