A PARTNERSHIP service which has helped hundreds of Bury residents has celebrated its first birthday.
In the 12 months that is has been established, the Housing Advice Service has been responsible for helping local people to obtain more than £43,000 in welfare benefits they might otherwise have missed out on, at the same time it has also helped individuals dealing with debt problems.
The service was set up by Bury Council and the Bury and District Disability Advisory Council, Citizens Advice Bureau, Homeless Young Persons Enterprise, Bury Housing Concern, Bury Young Persons' Housing Link, Bury Leaving Care Project and Rachel House.
A major function of the Housing Advice team is the prevention of homelessness. Since the service started 79 people have faced a real threat of losing their home - 74 of which have been prevented.
More details are available from the Housing Advice Service on 0161-253-7557.
