TIGER'S tail markings are to be used on the M60/M61 junction to stop motorists taking the law of the jungle into their own hands.
The Highways Agency has highlighted the M60 clockwise Junction 15 at Worsley braided interchange where the motorway joins the M61 westbound as one of the busiest junctions on the ring road.
They pointed out the slip road between the two motorways is a single lane carriageway and during peak periods traffic can queue back on the M60 to Junction 13 at Worsley.
To compound the problem the approach to the junction is uphill used by a high percentage of heavy goods vehicles, with the slow moving traffic quickly forming a queue. Motorists overtaking the slow moving traffic then realising they need to be in the inside lane and forcing their way into the queue has resulted in an average of five accidents per year.
The single lane exit is to be widened into a two lane exit separated by 'tigers tail' chevron markings, allowing slower moving vehicles in the inside lane not to impede traffic in the outside lane.
Work will start on Monday.
