THANKS to Bolton Evening News for the article on Carol Hill, teacher of blind and visually impaired children.
Carol passed away in December and many of us have lost a friend and workmate. It was nice to see the positive side of Carol's life in print for all to see. It confirmed my views that anyone experienced in working with visually impaired pupils could not fail to recognise the skills and dedication that Carol put into practice. Carol was driven by her high expectations of the children, did not suffer fools gladly and, in her forthright way, simply got on with the job. Recently one of these pupils has gained a place in the school that Carol recommended.
I was able to give her this news during a visit to the hospice. I wish she could see the successful integration of her other pupils into mainstream secondary, thanks to her belief in their abilities against all odds.
Carol's knowledge and expertise has gone with her and so has the sense of humour and fighting spirit she was well known for. A very hard act to to follow!
