THERE is trouble between Bolton and Blackpool fans before the start of this top of the table clash, with some fans being bloodied and ejected from the stadium prior to kick off.
The game itself is a horrifc experience for Bolton and their fans as they are well beaten, 3-0, by a well organised Blackpool side. This defeat enable Blackpool to go ahead of Bolton in the league table.

BOLTON lose 3-2 in a niggly match at Brentford. "Youngster" Alan Stubbs is lucky to stay on as he commits a blatant professional foul on a Brentford player.This behaviour is condoned by manager Phil Neal, as is Stubbs' arguments with officials.
Manchester United win 2-1 at Spurs to go six points clear at the top of the first division, ahead of bitter rivals Leeds United.
5 YEARS AGO: September 30, 1996
STOKE City score a dramatic, injury time equaliser against table-topping Bolton. Bolton had taken the lead through goalmachine Nathan Blake, and were cruising towards another three points until Stoke stepped in to spoil Bolton's trip to the midlands. Bolton still remain the leaders of the 1st division, however. At local rivals Manchester City, chairman and legend Francis Lee is coming under intense pressure to sell up, and leave Manchester City as a consortium is rumoured to be planning a take-over bid.
