BOLTON'S six-bed coronary care unit is out-dated, small and unable to cope with the hundreds of heart attack patients who come through its emergency doors each year.
But it is the first point of contact if you or a member of your family experiences a heart attack in Bolton.
People are now being urged to throw their weight behind the Bolton Evening News' adopted charity appeal for 2002.
The £1 million will fund ambitious plans to transform the town's coronary care unit into a bigger and brighter, modern medical unit.
Artists have drawn up their vision of what a new unit should look like.
The re-vamped unit will have 10 fully monitored coronary care beds. Two can be used as step down beds before patients move on to a cardiology ward. Plans include a large nursing station where all patients can be seen at a glance.
The £1m will fund a private relatives room, provide more storage space, better offices and a kitchen. The cash will also be used to buy the latest in equipment and technology.
