'THE march of McDonald's' has now arrived in our little town of Farnworth.
But will this mean a change in the environment for the better or the worse?
I am afraid it will be the latter. It is bad enough that our little open spaces are being swallowed up by car parks and commercial buildings, the car park at present serves local retail businesses. If this is lost to this proposal, what will happen to them? But what concerns me most is the loss of the playing field with the proposed plan. Are we not supposed to encourage our children to lead a better lifestyle through exercise, and is it not the government's guidelines for a healthier
nation?
This playing field will be lost if this proposal and further proposals are accepted. So I plead on behalf of the children of this town and the environment-- please do not approve this application.
A further application for the building on the playing field is to made on behalf of the Surestart Project which will be an extension of the nursery at the opposite end of the field facing Lord Street Kearsley which will take up most of the remaining half of the field. Traffic congestion in the area surrounding these proposals is already at an unacceptable level for the local residents
The land ear marked for these developments is owned by the council itself, so is this why it will be considered. We think so because a nice fat cheque will come in handy to ease Bolton's problems, but what of Farnworth, we wonder?
