POSTCODE change proposals would put Golborne and some Lowton addresses in Newton-le-Willows and Culcheth would be branded Birchwood.
But Royal Mail plans are being questioned by Leigh MP Andy Burnham and Lowton-based Wigan Council Cabinet member Cllr Brian Strett.
Lightshaw representative Cllr Strett was furious about the proposals. He said: "We'll be vigorously opposing this. It is outrageous. It does not fit in with the geography of our area and under a Cheshire post code people could have to fork out more for insurance. The Royal Mail should leave things as they are or bring us in line with the rest of the Leigh area with a WN postcode."
