A CHARITY that provides companionship for the elderly is seeking volunteers to set-up a new group in Leigh.
Contact the Elderly provides a service for elderly people who live alone and have little support.
The National Charity helps alleviate the isolation often felt by elderly people living alone by organising small groups of volunteer drivers to pick-up and take elderly guests to a host's home one Sunday a month for tea.
Groups are kept small so everyone can chat easily together. The outings provide a unique opportunity for companionship, a chance to make new friends and get away from four walls. The group members stay the same but visit a different host each month.
Volunteer drivers are required one Sunday afternoon a month to convey the elderly people to and from the host's home. Volunteer hosts provide teas at their homes just once every year.
For some elderly people Sunday is the loneliest day of the week. If you would like to volunteer or feel we could help you, contact Jenny Broadhurst on 01942 217577 or email her jennyb@contact-the-elderly.org
