THIS summer's Commonwealth Games will not be rubbish -- thanks to a group of "wacky cleaners" from Bolton.
A group of 17 residents from Darcy Lever, well known for their keenness in ridding litter and graffiti from their estate, have enrolled on a 10-week pre-volunteer training course in preparation for the huge multi-sporting event.
The homeowners who are all members of the Long Lane Residents Association will undergo training health and safety, customer care, event organising and first aid.
It has been laid on by Bolton Council's Education & Culture department.
Cllr John Byrne, executive member for culture, said: ''Not only will the Commonwealth Games volunteers benefit from the different aspects of the training course on an educational basis, but also from a practical and social perspective."
Volunteers will be used to help with stewarding and ushering, providing visitor information and supporting medal ceremonies.
