WHEN Marjorie Pennington clutched her chest and said that she felt unwell, her husband knew that she was having a heart attack.

Albert recognised his wife's symptoms, after he collapsed with heart failure three years ago.

Marjorie is now recovering in the Royal Bolton Hospital after three days of intense nursing in the coronary care unit.

The local couple owe their lives to staff on the unit and are now urging Bolton people to back the Coronary Care Appeal 2002.

Mr Pennington, married for 47 years, said: "Marjorie woke up in the middle of the night and asked for a drink because she felt unwell.

"She began clutching her chest and I recognised that she was having a heart attack. I just rang for an ambulance.

"She was taken to casualty and went straight to the coronary care unit. She was very, very poorly, but she pulled through.

"The staff were brilliant. It's fair to say that without them, Marjorie and I wouldn't be here now."
